Together we Map the World is a canon and OC forum that takes place directly after the first film left off, behaving as if the series and second film after never happened. With a wealth of locations, dragons, and characters to choose from, the possibilities are endless. What the tides of storytelling will do with these building blocks is up to you. How far will you go?
Toothless hadn't left that fight unscathed, and he was feeling the fatigue from it as he pushed on harder towards the village, but adrenaline and determination to not let Hiccup slip away pushed him faster than he could ever remember running before, and soon he was clearing the thickest part of the forest and the village was coming into view.
He didn't stop when he got into the village, knocking down people and dragons and everything else in his way as he made a beeline for one villager in particular. He knew Adelaide was the one training to be a healer, and the one he'd probably be able to find easier. He could lick his own wounds once he knew Hiccup's were being treated, they weren't as severe anyway.
When he spotted the girl and her dragon, he let out a frantic roar that to anyone might have sounded panicked and urgent, before he slid to a stop and looked from her to the boy on his back, gruffing frantically and nudging her. He didn't know where to put him, what to do, if she wanted him somewhere, but he wanted them to not wait any longer to get to work doing whatever needed to be done.
Today was slow for a healer, only minor aches and pains from daily chores, a few vikings catching a cold or dealing with allergies, nothing overly concerning. With so few things to worry about, the red haired young viking had pulled up a chair outside the Jorgenson home with a piece of weeping willow from a trader that had come by offering their wears and the deep brown piece of wood had caught her eyes. It was strong and slightly flexible but sturdy, perfect for the staff she intended to make which she was sitting down to work on. There was just some work that had to be done...
The sounds of surprised villagers and dragons made Adelaide pause, listening closely before she heard rushed steps coming right towards her looking up in time to see an exhausted but frantic Toothless and...a downed Hiccup! Jumping right to her feet, Adelaide dropped the willow branch to the ground, rushing over to her cousin upon his back and seeing the red outline of blood on his tunic. "By Thor..." She said with wide eyes, "Toothless come in here, quickly." The red head told the Night fury, rushing to the house and opening the door so the black dragon could follow, the young woman whistling sharply while she grabbed her supplies from her room.
With the whistle, Cinnamon let out a small huff and followed her rider from their shared space, letting out a concerned growl as she came over to assist with this emergency. "Just got to get him on the table." Adelaide motioned towards the table as she approached, swiping her arm across it to knock over the items on it so Hiccup could be on something stable and she could take a look at what was going on.
Toothless could only make frantic noises in response to her words, and the rider on his back could only let out incoherent sounds as he fought somewhere between unconsciousness and coming to. The Night Fury followed her inside, turning his head just a bit to make comforting little croons at his friend when he heard him moan in pain on his back.
When Adelaide had cleared the table, Toothless carefully slid Hiccup from his back to the table with a careful wing, moving so he was out of the way before he thunked his head down on the table and pressed his nose under the boy's hand so it rested on his head. At least it was still warm, and alive, and he could feel the fingers just barely twitching to run over his scales in an attempt to comfort the dragon even in Hiccup's half out of it state.
Adelaide leaned over the table on the opposite side of Toothless once her cousin was laid out on the table, seeing his tunic was rather torn but the movement, however faint, was a good sign. "Okay he's moving, that's a positive." She muttered to herself quickly turning away to grab her medical bag, full of her supplies and herbs before returning to the table with Cinnamon hovering nearby and ready to give aid.
Laying down the bag on a chair, Adelaide pulled out a small knife, cutting Hiccup's tunic down the middle and moving it aside to get at the claw marks, cringing at seeing the damage done. "Gods Hiccup, what sort of trouble did you get yourself in this time?" She sighed but clearly concerned as she carefully examined the wound, trying to determine how deep the wounds were, running through her mind what she would need to prevent infection or the wound getting worse in general. With a gesture to Cinnamon Adelaide turned back to her bag to begin mixing some herbs in her mortar. In the meantime Cinnamon moved closer, letting out a comforting warble towards Toothless, trying to be reassuring to the Night Fury things would be fine.
Leaning her head down, the Prickleboggle began to clean the wound, creating a thin icy laid with reach lick to sooth and lessen the pain, helping to stimulate and quicken the healing process. After a few minutes, Cinnamon stepped back, looking at her rider as she worked to ensure the herbs were crushed and mixed well to make a poultice then grabbing some additional supplies and coming back to Hiccup's side. "Come on Hiccup, you're not out of this yet, Valhalla isn't in your near future cousin." She urged him, trying to get a response or hoping he could hear them at all as she began gently break away the thin layers of ice to apply the poultice and stitching the areas. With how deep and nasty the wounds looked, he would need them until the wounds healed over.
Through the veil of barely conscious, Hiccup was aware of the things being said and done around him. There was a burning discomfort in his chest that seemed to dissipate slowly as Cinnamon did her job, and Toothless was soothed by the fact that the boy's hand seemed to move more as the healer and her dragon worked their magic. He couldn't help feeling like he'd somehow failed though, Hiccup had been alone, and he'd been hurt because of it. The dragon licked at Hiccup's hand, which brought a soft chuckle from his rider as he slowly, painfully regained consciousness.
"Least I didn't lose another limb right?" He laughed, a faint, pained chuckle as he winced just a bit. The icy numbness from Cinnamon's work did wonders to chase away the worst of the pain from being stitched back up, but it was still an uncomfortable feeling, "they sent me to investigate the dragon that's been causing trouble," he explained, he wanted to be a little angry that they'd willingly shouldered such a dangerous situation onto him alone, but he supposed he should feel grateful that they had faith in him.
"That dragon is dangerous, but listen..." He started, turning a serious expression her way, "I don't want them to lead a party into the woods to kill him, so as far as they know it was a bear that attacked me," he said, knowing full well he'd be scolded for that, but he felt confident he could handle it now that he knew what he was dealing with, "I think I can get him to leave Berk now that I know what I'm up against, I'll go back out there and try again." He said this with the finality of someone who'd already made up their mind, Toothless gave a soft, annoyed hiss at this though, clearly displeased.
Adelaide continued to work diligently, ever aware that despite how delicately and carefully she was working, there was always the chance something else could happen. She was still in training after all, and her knowledge only went so far so if it had come to that point...
Shaking her head at such a notion, Adelaide continued her final bit of stitching, casing an annoyed look towards her trouble prone cousin. "That other limp was almost your head Mister Peg Leg." She retorted, seeming to be a little less frantic now that the wound seemed to be nearly taken care of. It had been deep, but she had done what she could with her dragon companion's help, letting out a sigh of relief when she finished. Her stitching could use some work of course, but for the time being it would do the trick. "There. That should keep the wound cleaned and help the healing process, so long as you don't do something strenuous for a little while."
Though as she was gathering her supplies, she paused as Hiccup finally spoke a bit better, his tone being a rare seriousness. What he said however made her eyes narrow, a steeliness showing in them as her anger built slightly upon hearing Hiccup had been sent alone to handle a dragon, most likely a vicious one at that. Then again, Hiccup facing off against whatever this dragon had been had been just as idiotic!
"Are you freaking kidding me?!" Adelaide's outburst caused Cinnamon to step back, startled by her rider's outburst. She was aware the young viking had a temper, but this was one of those moments she wasn't expecting it, causing her to back off slightly. "Of all the idiotic things the village felt you should go alone to handle a territorial, vicious dragon?!" Dropping the mortar, pestle, and remaining plants onto the table with a loud clatter, the red head began to pace in anger, fuming at the situation that possibly laid out. "I could careless if it was a horde of bear cubs Hiccup, they shouldn't have sent you into danger alone!" She ranted, finally turning on him next. "And you of anyone should have known not to go alone! You and Toothless aren't invincible!"
It had been a while since Adelaide had snapped like this, or turned her temper on her family, save for her father. But this was one time she was going to make it known how stupid of an idea that had been, "I will keep it secret it was the dragon Hiccup, but by Odin's beard you sure as Hel better take someone else with you next time! If I find out you didn't so help me Gothi's staff will end up where the sun doesn't shine, got it!" She growled slightly.
