[Species Name]Mournful Moormoaner
[Class] Mystery
[Fire Type] A very smoky red fire that only burns things at extremely close range.
[Features] Squat and low to the ground, their wings never really fold, but rather flatten along the sides. They have a strange horny structure on their nose to amplify their very distinct call, a long moan that varies in pitch and sounds like the screams of dying Vikings.
[Habitat] Moors, plateaus and other large, flat, open grounds.
[Colors] Their scales are anywhere between gold to tan to sandy grey, with a belly that is usually a paler yellow or peach. Black or dark red spots and or splotches decorate the face, neck, tail and sometimes back or feet, with each individual having a unique amount and placement of spots. Larger bright red eyespots decorate both the sides of their heads and the undersides of their wings matching their brilliant red and yellow eyes.
[Scale] Medium, can carry a single grown Viking.

Wailing Call: The large hornlike protrusion on their snouts are used to amplify the volume of their vocals, as such Moormoaners can be heard islands away, the ghostlike quality giving rise to rumours that the islands they inhabit are haunted.
Venomous Jaws: Unhinge their jaws like snakes to eat, and can easily swallow a Viking whole. The fangs within contain a dangerous venom that drains strength and gets deadlier the more the victim exerts themselves.
Smoke and Fire: Their fire is rather cool with a very short range, they more commonly use the resulting smoke to shroud the moors they live on. This gives them both cover in the daylight for their sensitive eyes and somewhere to hide on the open plains.
Agility and Speed: On the ground Moormoaners are very fast and very agile, having no problem spinning to attack something behind them.
Strength and Combat: Moormoaners are average in strength, though they prefer not to fight, especially with those larger than they are, they use both speed and their venom to their advantage.
Stamina and Endurance: Very good at long distance gliding and flight in mild, windless weather. They store extra water and nutrients in thick fat at the base of their tail. This allows them to easily go weeks or even months without food and water.
Senses: Have excellent senses of hearing, smell, and sight, though due to their nocturnal nature their sight is better at night, dawn or dusk than in broad daylight.
Intelligence: Moormoaners have many thing going for them but brains are not one. They have fairly good tactics and instincts but terrible memories and problem solving skills, making them easy to hide from and outsmart.
Extremely territorial these dragons always live alone, communicating with others of their species over a large distance to make sure that they both understand where the boundaries are. When disputes do crop up most of the fighting is just posturing, who is bigger, who has brighter fire, actual combat within the breed is rare and seldom deadly. They don’t fight with other breeds often either, preferring to scare or simply poison and run away than actually fight.
While a Moormoaner on the ground is usually deadly in speed and agility, in the air they are clumsy and slow to turn, though decently fast. Their fire has no known shot limit but doesn’t actually go much further than the end of the snout before dispersing into thick smoke, giving them no ranged attacks to speak of. Their eyes are used to darkness and the haze of smoke, making them very susceptible to flashes of bright light. Extremely lethargic and slow after eating a large meal, if startled they will throw it up so they can get away.
Given that their main food sources are big furry animals (like yak) many Moormoaners mistake Vikings for a nice easy snack, though they are fairly easy to scare off, waving around a torch or a red blanket usually does the trick. They are not adverse to taming, especially if raised from the egg, but are not common companions due to their tendency to wail and yowl all through the night, robbing those nearby of any sleep. They cannot be broken of this habit as it is ingrained deep within their instincts although they do make good guard dragons though if you happen to be deaf or live somewhere with excellent sound-proofing.
