Together we Map the World is a canon and OC forum that takes place directly after the first film left off, behaving as if the series and second film after never happened. With a wealth of locations, dragons, and characters to choose from, the possibilities are endless. What the tides of storytelling will do with these building blocks is up to you. How far will you go?
Up to this point, Adelaide had never flown on Cinnamon before, both content to run around on the ground or Adelaide riding on her back when she wasn't flying. But given that Adelaide would eventually be required to travel during her healer career due to many herbs not being available there on the Berk islands she thought it was good a time as any to learn how to fly on Cinnamon. Flight would be faster than by boat which could take days depending on where they had to go.
Even Gothi had commented in her unusual way that there were certain islands only she knew that she would have to pass onto Adelaide.
After consulting with Gothi on a personally made map, Adelaide had figured now was a good time as any to give things a go. "I'm sure it'll be fine girl, a quick dive and I'll grab on as you level out, simple and easy!" Adelaide sounded rather confident and certain it would work, coming to the edge of Gothi's deck area without fear. She had done quite a bit of cliffdiving in her youth, so jumping off a cliff was rather normal for her and other vikings. But Cinnamon let out a concerned and uncertain croon, obviously concerned such a thing wouldn't work. It was one thing for the lower cliffs but something this high, the Prickleboggle held some reservations at the plan. Yet, the young Viking seemed insistent on doing so. If her brother could do it, why couldn't she?
With a wide grin, Adelaide jumped from the deck while Cinnamon took off and went into a steep dive to fly parallel to the daredevil female. For a short distance the two dove parallel to one another until Cinnamon steered herself to fly beneath her rider, attempting to time things just right. "Here we go, just a little more..." Adelaide held her arms out right and attempt to grab onto Cinnamon, but when her hands met scales, the female Prickleboggle was off just enough the landing was awkward and the catch was off center, causing Cinnamon to try and over correct herself, flaring her wings in attempt to slow her decent but Adelaide's own momentum caused her to struggle to get a grip. Before either could correct themselves, Adelaide found herself already unable to keep her grip, fingers clawing at nothing, "Cinnamon!" For a rare moment, her voice was full of shock and terror, the Prickleboggle roaring with horror, trying to catch the red haired Viking with her tail but unable to keep a hold, sending Adelaide into a free fall.
Hiccup and his dragon riders had thought themselves sooo cool, so much better than him and everyone else. He'd proven himself capable, sure he was a little rusty and needed some work, but they hadn't even wanted to try and help him, and he was more than a little bit put off of them and their so-called cool club. What did he need them for anyway? He could figure this out all on his own, he didn't need some stupid over important dragon riders to show him what to do.
When they'd discovered him trying to train Fanghook, Hiccup had ordered him to let the dragon go back into the wild. Gustav had done so, or as far as anyone else was concerned he had, but for months now he'd been training the Nightmare in secret, all by himself, and even though he didn't have a fancy saddle or training, he was more than ready to take to the skies. The pair had bonded surprisingly well, both small and kind of picked on by their peers, both young and inexperienced, surely that was all you needed right?
"Okay Fanghook, we're gonna take it nice and easy, right?" He patted the Nightmare's head before climbing up, the dragon gave a nervous warble, he really hadn't done much flying solo much less with a rider, and the last thing he wanted was to hurt the small human that he'd become rather fond of. The pair edged to the ledge of the cliff, and Fanghook looked down with a nervous sound before Gustav patted his neck, "don't worry, it's just water down there right? We'll be fiiiine!" He said, but his confidence didn't reach all his features.
When the pair jumped from the cliff, they immediately plummeted, Gustav clinging to Fang's neck tightly as the Nightmare struggled to right himself. His wings popped open almost last minute before he careened forwards, twisting and dipping haphazardly as their path took them right towards the other pair practicing their flying.
Gustav didn't even see the peril that Adelaide was in as he headed right for her, eyes closed tightly as he just held on for dear life, but their timing was beyond lucky as the freefalling girl happened to land hard on Fanghook, sending the three of them straight for the ground. The landing was rough as they rolled and tumbled for a bit before coming to a stop, but Fanghook had managed to slow them down so that the splat never came.
Adelaide could feel her heart racing, pounding in her ears as she saw the ground coming towards her. Or her to it. Either way, the fall felt like it had gone into slow motion, only vaguely aware of the horrified screech from her dragon companion behind her. This was so stupid! One of the worst ideas she could have thought of!
Squeezing her eyes shut, Adelaide awaited for the last moments of her life to come, just going splat right onto the ground...until she collided with something hard, her body immediately reacting on its own to hang onto the object that had caught her, never opening her eyes to see who or what it was. She just knew it was something alive and moving, and they were going down as well, causing her to hold on for dear life as they went crashing into the ground. The tumbling and rolling caused her to grunt and "oof" as they tumbled along, the final few rolls sending her flying and rolling a few feet away, a pained groan leaving the young female viking.
It took a few minutes for Adelaide to get a decent breathe from the wind being knocked out of her, wincing as she slowly moved her hands beneath her aching body and pushed herself to a kneeling position. A flap of wings soon caused her to glance up, Cinnamon having finally caught up with the three after their crash, warbling with concern, "I'm alright girl, just sore." She assured her with a slightly pained smile, using a branch to pull herself up with Cinnamon's help.
A soft hiss left her however, feeling one of her ankles giving a painful throb, "Great, most likely a sprang." She muttered, having a small limp as her and the Prickleboggle approached the ones who had caught her, Adelaide's eyes widening upon seeing the Nightmare and the one riding upon him. "Gustav!" Half running, half limping, Adelaide made her way over to her closest friend, Cinnamon following close at her side. "Gustav are you alright?!"
His head was absolutely ringing as he finally started to come out of the daze that that less than spectacular landing had put him in, "wooah...What did we hit?!" He groaned, and the Night Fury grumbled back in response, his own dazed and confused sound to match the boy that has landed next to him. He stayed where he was until the world stopped spinning, then pulled himself into a sitting position and looked over, his eyes widening when he realized who was there.
"Adie?!" He rolled off of his dragon's wing so Fanghook could struggle to right himself as well, laughing, "no way! We almost died!" he looked over at her, waving a hand despite the ache in his head and his arms and everything else that had been bumped and bruised in the fall, "psssh I'm fiiiine!" He said, but winced when Fanghook nudged him, "okay, little sore, but fine!" He laughed, then noticed Adie favoring a leg.
"Oh jeeze, is your leg alright?" he asked, looking concerned now as he tried to take in the situation. He didn't even realize that Adie now knew his secret, more concerned with what she'd been doing falling from the sky and the fact that she appeared to be injured right now.
Upon reaching both Gustav and Fanghook, Adelaide couldn't help overlooking both, seeing some bumps, bruises, and scrapes, but nothing particularly too concerning which was a relief. In fact, she seemed more concerned for their sake then her own sprang ankle, quickly waving it off, "Just a sprang, don't worry about it." She assured him, merely limping over to her dazed friend and offering a faint smile, "I was more concerned about you and your...Nightmare."
Her gaze briefly shifted back towards Fanghook curiously, a rather young Nightmare from the looks of it and his coloring seemed brighter than Hookfang's. Though overall, he seemed rather healthy. "You know, its a good thing you're a rule breaker sometimes, you two saved me from going splat all over Berk just now, even if it was a rather rough landing." Adelaide told him, holding out a hand towards Gustav and giving him an even broad smile, bordering on a faint grin. Even with knowing his secret, she wasn't about to berate him over the matter, especially when they had inadvertently saved her from certain death.
Gustav laughed and waved a hand away when she expressed concern, "nah don't worry about us! We're fine!" He chuckled, then ran a hand over the back of his neck and grinned, "but y'know, thanks all the same!" He was quick to add, always kind of touched when anyone showed concern over him. His mom tended to be a bit absent, so it wasn't something he was used to.
When she pointed out the Nightmare he looked nervous, maybe a little sheepish even, and chuckled, "yeah uh, this is Fanghook!" He grinned at the dragon as he hung his head over his shoulder, "I've been training him in secret!" He took her hand to get to his feet, Fanghook bumping him from behind with his head to offer extra help, "we did?" He exchanged looks with Fanghook, eyes a little wide, "wow! Well I'm glad we could help!" He said with a grin, "guess my bad luck was your good luck this time!" He added with a laugh, offering a hand to her now, "need help getting back?" He could tell she had a gnarly limp, and it was at least sort of his fault, so the least they could do was help, right?
